The FSMed is composed by social movements base organizations, NGO/s, trade unions, men and women of the different boundaries of the Mediterranean concerned about the construction of the Mediterranean Social Forum, as a common space of discussion, criticism and participation of people of the Mediterranean area.

We are part of the great movement against the neo-liberal internationalisation that has built the World Social Forum in Porto Alegre and in Mumbai, and also of other continental social Forums. We are organizing ourselves to assemble a great pressure group in all our countries the 20 of March, world day against war, to claim, together with the majority of citizens around the world, the end of the military occupation of the American and English armies and allies in Iraq returning the governance to the Iraqi people.

As urgent us our initiative is the Mediterranean. Since in the Mediterranean area is where many unbalances and conflicts generated and concentrated by the latest international capitalism.

The neo-liberal recipes are being applied and generalized in all the countries of the Mediterranean area, in particular through the Euro-Mediterranean Agreement project. The companies and the public sectors are being privatised, one after the other in countries of all Mediterranean edges. The working class, citizens of all the area, are suffering a process of weakening their social and work rights and laws whereas the territories are every time more devastated because of political decisions against the environment. The democratic regression and the freedom in parliamentary democracies of Southern ? Europe, even reinforces the stagnation of the authoritarian regimes in countries of the north of Africa and of the oriental edge of the Mediterranean.

The policies of armaments escalation, the presence and the reinforcement of an important armed force from the US, and on NATO military bases, the military aggression in Iraq, the constant aggression to Palestinian people on the part of the Israeli government and its allies, the militarisation of borders against the circulation of peoples, are elements that represent steps to standardize global permanent war ideology all over the Mediterranean, not attending the demands in favour of the peace of their citizenry.

Only the collective action of social movements and of the Mediterranean area peoples, of men and of women that are opposed to the permanent global war and to neo-liberalism will be able to change radically the situation, offering a hope of peace, equality, social justice, democracy and freedom, and to bring about the idea that another Mediterranean is possible.

Therefore, a decision has been taken to meet again (after Rabat and Naples), to carry out the III preparatory Assembly and develop a plenary discussion on the method of ensemble or gathering, goals and contents of the FSMed, that we have agreed will be carried out in Barcelona during the first half of 2005, and allow time enough to ensure the process a maximum participation, so that every resistance groups and movements all over the Mediterranean can be represented and encountered with others creating links and reinforcing each other.

The opposition to war and neo-liberalism, to the options to the Euro-Mediterranean agreement, will be the base of the common initiatives of our discussion.

We will be in Cyprus, working together with the Turkish and Cypriot social movements and all others, to end with the wall that is dividing the common interests of peoples who would like to live in peace, social justice and to start on with strength the mobilizations to bring down the terrible wall built in Palestine, which pretends to destroy the dignity of the Palestine peoples, preventing from a solution that guarantees the ground, the homeland and the dignity of all peoples in the area.

We call all of you to take part in the process, sending its representatives to Cyprus, to contribute to the re-launching and reinforcement of our common path towards the Mediterranean Social Forum.
